Semen Datura was a metal band from Germany .
Band history
The band has existed since late autumn 1997. After the MXVII demo and the 1999 EP Black Wings , the band signed a contract with the Austrian record label CCP Records . Under the direction of producer Andy Classen , the band recorded their first album at Stage One Studio ( Holy Moses , Suidakra , Nagelfar ), which was released in 2001. The band was put on hold at the end of 2001 due to casting problems.
Auerswald and Nakhar reformed the band in 2004 and worked on songs for the album Vineta Part I . It is the first part of a trilogy about the sunken city of Vineta .
On October 16, 2009, the third album Solitude was released on the Italian label Aeternitas Tenebrarum Music Foundation ( Lantlôs , Absentia Lunae, Forgotten Woods ).
In 2010 the band announced their breakup.
Music style and lyrics
The band orientates itself on experimental black metal influences, “what is offered, however, looks extensively [...] outside the box. This applies to the extent unusual, characterized but no less touching harmonic structures as well as the use of synthetic timbres and alienation effects on the vocal performances "The present on the early releases. Semen is the English word for 'seeds', Datura alludes to the scientific name of the thorn apples , which suggests the potential drug use of the musicians. Most of the texts are metaphorical and deal with topics like despair , darkness and isolation . Vineta Part I and Loneliness are the first two parts of a planned trilogy for the Vineta saga. On loneliness , "the texts are less long and metaphorical [...], instead focus on brevity, clarity and conciseness".
