The Sennheiser MD 441 is a dynamic large-diaphragm microphone manufactured by the German company Sennheiser since 1971 . After the Sennheiser MD 421, which was introduced a decade earlier, it became a widely used microphone for radio and television reports and was part of the appearance of numerous politicians around the world.

The transmission range is 30 to 20,000 Hertz, the sensitivity 1.8 mV / µbar ± 3 dB, the impedance 200 Ohm. The directional characteristic of the microphone is a supercardioid. It has a hum compensation coil. Like the MD 421, the MD 441 has a five-stage bass switch. It was available in different versions and in black color, the current model is silver. At first it was available with DIN plugs, in one version with a small cloth , in another with a large cloth plug. The microphone has had an XLR connector since 1985 . It weighs around 450 grams.

Television and radio

The microphone was seen in various programs on Soviet television from the 1970s , e.g. B. in the main news program “Wremja” (“Die Zeit”) and the talk show “9 Studia” (“Ninth Studio”). The Soviet head of state Leonid Brezhnev was seen doing an interview for Japanese television in 1977. Four MD 441s can be seen on the often printed picture of the brotherly kiss between Brezhnev and Erich Honecker by press photographer Barbara Klemm from 1979. At the Alexanderplatz demonstration on November 4, 1989 in Berlin, the speeches were spoken in two MD 441s. December 19, 1989 spoke Helmut Kohl in his first major appearance after the Wall fell in Dresden , among others, in an MD 441. The microphone was part of the retro -aesthetics of the studio of ZDFneo -Talkshows Roche & Böhmermann (silver) and Schulz & Böhmermann (black ).

The MD 441 has also been used as a vocal microphone since the 1970s, for example by Frank Zappa, Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, and for the first television appearance of the British band The Cure at a concert in Paris in 1979 by Robert Smith .

While the MD 441 was superseded by other models as a radio microphone, it is still used today for the acceptance of musical instruments . It is used in particular in the field of drums for hi-hats , overheads, snare (top and bottom), toms, bass drums , overheads and for percussion, in the field of electric string instruments for guitar and bass amplifiers and for woodwind instruments .
