Türkay "Turgay" Sabit Şeren (born May 15, 1932 in Ankara , † July 7, 2016 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish football goalkeeper , football coach and commentator. Through his many years of work for Galatasaray Istanbul and as its own generation, he is very strongly associated with this club and viewed by club and fan sites as one of the most important personalities in the club's history. Until the early 2010s he was a popular newspaper columnist and football expert on television. During his playing days he was nicknamed the Panther of Berlin .
Player career

Şeren attended the prestigious Galatasaray High School and during this time played in the youth department of the traditional Galatasaray Istanbul club - the club that was founded by students from Galatasaray High School. At school he was noticed by the sports teacher Mehmet Ali Hoca because of his stature for the time. Although Şeren had previously been a center forward in the Galatasaray youth team, he was accepted into the professional team at the advice of Mehmet Ali Hoca at the age of 14 as a substitute for goalkeeper Erdoğan Atlıoğlu .
Şeren played for Galatasaray Istanbul from 1949 to 1966 .
National team
For the Turkish national soccer team , he completed 46 games. His game against West Germany in 1951 in Berlin stands out. With his saves during the game, he secured the team a 2-1 victory. Since that game he has been referred to as the Berlin Panteri (Panther of Berlin). He was a member of the Turkish national team at the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland and played in the preliminary rounds against Germany (1: 4) and South Korea (7: 0).
Şeren came in the first game of the Turkish U-21 national team , which was played on October 28, 1950 as part of the Mediterranean Cup against the Egyptian U-21 national team, used.
Coaching career
After the end of his playing career, Şeren worked as a football coach for about a decade. His first job was in the 1968/69 season for the then first division club Mersin İdman Yurdu . At the end of the season he left this club and moved within the league to Vefa Istanbul . After he had looked after Vefa for a season, he took over the northern Turkish first division club Samsunspor .
In the summer of 1971 he took over Mersin IY again and coached this club for two years.
Before the 6th day of the 1979/80 season he took over from the resigned Coşkun Özarı as coach of Galatasaray Istanbul . He looked after this club until the end of the season and finished in a disappointing 9th place in the table. After this activity, he stopped working as a coach and from then on worked as a football commentator.

- In 1986, the Association of Turkish Sports Journalists voted Şeren into the best team in Turkish football for the last 25 years.
