Sergei Nikolajewitsch Ageikin ( Russian Сергей Николаевич Агейкин ; born June 13, 1963 in Saratov , Russian SFSR ; † May 30, 2001 in Moscow , Russia ) was a Russian - Soviet ice hockey player who won the gold medal at the 1986 World Cup with the Soviet national team .

Career

Sergei Ageikin began his career with Kristall Saratow , where he made the jump from the juniors to the first Soviet ice hockey league. In 1982 he took part in the U20 Junior World Championship and won the gold medal. In 1985 he moved to Spartak Moscow . Ageikin took part in the 1986 Ice Hockey World Championship in the domestic Soviet Union and won the title there. After six years in Moscow, he moved abroad for the first time, to the Polish first division club Podhale Nowy Targ . A year later he went to the Oberliga Germany for 1. EV Weiden , where he played two and a half seasons. After a dispute with coach Wilbert Duszenko, he left Weiden during the season and joined the ERC Sonthofen . After a short intermezzo in Italy at SC Laces Val Venosta , he moved again to Germany for two years at EV Ravensburg in 1997 . In 1999 Ageikin moved back to his homeland to Vitjas Podolsk .

Ageikin died of leukemia on May 30, 2001, shortly before his 38th birthday. He was buried in the Wostryakovo cemetery in Moscow.
