Sergei Bautin ( Russian Сергей Викторович Баутин , Belarusian Сяргей Віктаравіч Баутін / Syarhey Wiktarawitsch Bautin * 11. March 1967 in Rahachow , Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a former Russian - Belarusian ice hockey player . With the selection of the CIS in 1992 he became Olympic champion .

Career

Bautin began his career in 1988 with the Soviet second division club Kristall Saratow , before moving to Dynamo Moscow in the top division of the USSR in 1990 . After the Olympic victory of the CIS, he was at the NHL Entry Draft in 1992 by the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL as a 17 the first round drafted . After two years as a regular player with 130 appearances in the Jets, he moved to the Detroit Red Wings in March 1994 . With the Red Wings, however, he only came to a single use, instead, Bautin was almost exclusively used with the Adirondack Red Wings , a farm team in Detroit. Even after moving to the San Jose Sharks in 1995 , he was unable to establish himself as a regular player in the NHL, but left the team again after only one use.

He then played for two years (1996-1998) with Luleå HF in Sweden, one year each with Ak Bars Kazan in Russia (1998/99) and the Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the DEL (1999/2000), after two years in Japan at Ōji Seishi Tokyo and a farewell season in Russia at Metallurg Magnitogorsk (2002/03) to end his active career.

Bautin was a long-time national player of Russia , he took part in three world championships (1992, 1997, 1999) and won the Olympic ice hockey tournament with the selection of the CIS in 1992 . In 1992 he was honored with induction into the Russian and Soviet Hockey Hall of Fame .
