Sergio Galoyan (2002)

Sergio Galoyan (born December 25, 1981 in Moscow as Sergei Sassunikowitsch Galojan , Russian Сергей Сасуникович Галоян ) is a Russian music producer, songwriter and DJ of Armenian origin.

Early career

Galoyan's father was a guitarist in a band that specialized in Western pop and rock music. So he came into contact with western music at an early age and began to take guitar lessons at the age of 14 . At the age of 16, Galoyan began working as a DJ in clubs in Moscow, and he increasingly devoted himself to house and dance music. A short time later he founded his own band called The Noise , in which he acted as a guitarist and also wrote lyrics. Galoyan and his band performed in several smaller clubs in Moscow, and at home he mixed his first dance tracks with the means available to him. By the end of 1999 Galoyan wrote and produced three albums, some of his songs were broadcast on the Moscow radio station "Station 2000". So he gained a certain local popularity and met Ivan Shapovalov . Shapovalov was the manager of the then completely unknown duo tATu , and he asked Galoyan to write and produce their first single. tATu's debut single Ja soschla s uma was a great success in Russia and the former states of the Soviet Union and stayed at number 1 in the Russian charts for weeks. Galoyan also played a key role in the debut album 200 Po Wstretschnoi , he wrote and produced the next two singles Nas ne dogonjat and 30 minut as well as the songs Maltschik-Gei and Ja twoja ne perwaja, which are also on the album . Also 200 Po Wstretschnoi became a huge success and was only sold in Russia over two million copies. Galoyan had suddenly become one of the most successful and sought-after Russian songwriters and producers, but still unknown internationally.

Lawsuits against Schapovalov and Universal Music

In October 2001, Galoyan sued manager Schapovalov for a total of 500,000 rubles and 33,000 US dollars because he saw himself defamed in the album booklet and his honor and dignity injured. Jelena Kiper , co-producer of tATu, dismissed the statements in the album booklet as fun. Nevertheless, a Russian court found Galoyan in the right and Shapovalov was fined 20,000 rubles. In 2002, the Russian songs were translated into English by 200 Po Wstretschnoi under the direction of Trevor Horn and their sound was tailored to the western music market, so that at the end of 2002 tATu became known worldwide at 200 km / h in Wrong Lane . At this point, Galoyan was no longer working with tATu or its manager Ivan Shapovalov. Nevertheless, there was a second lawsuit against Schapowalow and Universal Music , because Galoyan is mentioned in the album booklet as the songwriter for the songs All the Things She Said , Not Gonna Get Us , Malchik Gay , Show Me Love and 30 Minutes , but not as the person responsible for the text. Since the English songs are translations of the original Russian versions, Galoyan felt at a disadvantage.

Renewed collaboration with tATu and further work

With the publication of the songs by tATu, which he wrote and composed, Galoyan gained international fame. He worked with Marilyn Manson , Keith Flint , Jennifer Lopez and Alsou , for whom he mainly remixed their songs. After tATus separated from her manager Schapovalov, Galoyan was again open to working with the two singers Jelena Katina and Julija Wolkowa . For their second studio album Dangerous and Moving and its Russian-language version Ljudi Inwalidy wrote and produced a total of six songs, none of which was released as a single. He was also involved as a composer and songwriter on tATu's third album, but to a much lesser extent.

In 2008 he worked with the Russian singer Valeriya and was involved in ten of the songs on the album Out of Control , one of which ( Wild ) was also released as a single and entered the Russian airplay charts. Galoyan has been trying to distinguish himself as a solo DJ since 2010 and has released five singles so far. Most of the time he works with unknown singers from all over the world. After the vocal duo tATu broke up in 2011, Galoyan continued working with both singers in the course of their solo careers. The song Paradise , recorded with Jelena Katina, was released on October 24, 2012 , in which Galoyan is mentioned for the first time as a participating solo artist, and not just as being responsible for the music composition or the text.

Private

Sergio Galoyan now lives in Los Angeles , but still spends a lot of time in his hometown Moscow. In January 2005, Galoyan married Alexandra Tityanko, whom he had met through her work as PR manager at tATu's former record label Neformat . The marriage was divorced in 2007.
