Nas ne dogonjat (Russian Нас не догонят; German “Man will not catch us”) is the second single by the Russian pop duo tATu from their 2001 debut album 200 Po Wstretschnoi . The song was never officially released as a CD or cassette, only as a music video. A CD containing the song was released in Poland in 2003, but it was never advertised as an official single for the song. The same applies to the single download, which has been available on iTunes since 2004.

production

The song was written by Jelena Kiper , Valeri Poljenko and Sergio Galoyan . This team was responsible for tATu's first big hit, Ja soschla s uma . Singing into the recording studio took a full week, which makes Nas ne dogonjat the song on the album that has by far the longest production time. The English-language counterpart to Nas ne dogonjat was recorded in 2002, published in May 2003 and is called Not Gonna Get Us . In addition, there is a demo recording of the song on the Internet, in which it is still called "Begite sa nami" and the lyrics of Julija Wolkowas and the refrain show clear differences from the later original.

Publication and Success

The song and music video were first broadcast on May 21, 2001 on various music channels. In November of the same year Nas ne dogonjat made his debut in the Eastern European countries of Poland , Bulgaria , the Czech Republic and Slovakia , and in the summer of 2002 in Romania and Latvia . In Latvia the single landed at number five on the charts, in all other countries it reached number one. With a total of seven weeks at the top of the chart (from July 22nd to September 9th, 2002) the song achieved the greatest success in Romania. Nas ne dogonjat achieved very good broadcast values on the radio and on music channels, similar to the previous single Ja soschla s uma . On May 23, 2002, the song was awarded the "Ovatsiya Award" for the best Russian song of 2001. In 2010 the song was ranked eighth in the top 100 of the Polish music channel VIVA in its list of the best songs of the past ten years.

Nas ne dogonjat appears as the soundtrack in several films, for example in an unofficial remix version in the film The Code - Trust no thief , in its original version in Lilja 4-ever and in the Russian war film Chechenia Warrior 3 .

Music video

The music video for Nas ne dogonjat is still the most expensive music video ever produced in Russia. It shows the two singers Julija Wolkowa and Jelena Katina escaping from a fenced airfield in a truck and then speeding through snow-covered Siberia in this truck . The song's producer and then manager of the group, Ivan Shapovalov , also appears in the video . He depicts a road worker and is run over by the two protagonists at the beginning of the video. Sometimes the two singers can also be seen on the roof of the driver's cab, in these scenes doubles (Varvara Nikitina and Anastasia Iwanowa) were used. Much of the music video was filmed from a bird's eye view using cameras attached to helicopters. The video shoot, which took place at an outside temperature of −18 ° C, lasted three days. It took three hours to take the interior photos in the truck.

criticism

In the Moskovsky Komsomolets the song was described as "very sweet, seductive dance pop". The music video was praised as a "great film".

Use at major sporting events

As part of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in southern Russia , the title, which is very popular in Russia, gained new meaning. Katina and Wolkowa sang the song, almost three years after the official breakup of the duo tATu, in front of a large audience during the opening celebrations on February 7th at the Sochi Olympic Stadium . Moreover acted Nas ne dogonjat as the theme song of the Russian Olympians in their entry into the stadium.

In May of the same year, "НАС НЕ ДОГОНЯТ !!!", the song title in Cyrillic writing, was presented as the official motto of the Russian national soccer team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil . For the English-language equivalent, the title has been translated into "No one can catch us".
