Gomenasai (Japanese: ご め ん な さ い (gomen'nasai); German: "I'm sorry") is the third single from the second English-language album by the Russian duo tATu. Unlike the group's previous releases, Gomenasai is a quiet pop Ballad, which stands out from the previous singles. The cover image for the single was taken by Bryan Adams . According to Katina, the song was addressed to Japanese fans as an apology. In 2003, tATu left a live TV show in the middle of the program and started several of their performances late, which annoyed many Japanese. Eventually the song reached number 25 on the Japanese charts.

Music videos

The music video for the song was filmed in March 2006 at the Botanical Gardens in Los Angeles under the direction of Hype Williams . The music video is also very different from the band's previous releases. The videos for All the Things She Said , Not Gonna Get Us and All About Us included fast cuts that matched the high tempo of the songs. In Gomenasai, however, a dreamy and idyllic atmosphere is created. The video shows the two singers Jelena Katina and Julija Wolkowa singing against a black background, as well as recordings from the botanical garden. From time to time a picture of a stone angel statue is shown, which is also in the said botanical garden.

In addition to this music video, an animated version was also produced. This was only published in a few countries, such as New Zealand , and is in the style of Japanese anime . In the video, Jelena Katina is kidnapped by a group of robots, while Julija Wolkowa later frees her and destroys the robots in the process.

criticism

The Finnish music magazine Stara gave Gomenasai two out of five points in its rating . The song is "a normal pop ballad" and can be described as "upper middle class" in this category. According to the magazine, the duo stayed below expectations with the song: "Sure, the two beautiful women fit this mood perfectly, but when we talk about 'Superpop' from tATu, we can expect something different." Gomenasai is a contemporary pop ballad, but after listening to it several times, nothing can be found that makes a hit.

"Happy Birthday"

Even before the release of the single Gomenasai appeared Happy Birthday by Flipsyde end of December 2005. Flipsyde had borrowed with consultation of tATu the melody and the piano intro and creates from it a new song. The refrain has also been adopted. Katina sings the lines "What I thought was a dream ... Was as Real as it Seemed" and Wolkowa "I Made a Mistake". When singing in the studio, Wolkowa had taken on both positions, but both singers always sang live, for example on The Dome 37 , MTV TRL and Top of the Pops . Was produced Happy Birthday of Martin Kierszenbaum and Robert Orton, who had been previously involved in the production of two English albums by tATu.

The song is about the abortion of a child. The lyrical self directs its words to the child and imagines how its life could have been if it had come into the world.

Originally, the two singers from tATu Gomenasai did not want to publish as a single, only the great success of the Flipsyde version in German-speaking countries led to the single release and the production of two music videos. In Sweden , Happy Birthday went platinum in 2009 for over 20,000 singles sold after reaching number three on the charts there in 2006.
