Friend or Foe (dt. Friend or Foe ) is a pop song of the Russian duo t.ATu He was the second single from her second English-language album Dangerous and Moving . The song was composed by Martin Kierszenbaum and Dave Stewart , Sting plays bass and Bryan Adams was responsible for the cover.

Publications and Success

The CD single was originally planned to be released in early December 2005. For unknown reasons, this date was postponed to January / February of the following year. At this point, the previous single All About Us had dropped out of all major charts, including the German and British. The late release and lack of promotion were subsequently blamed for the single's poor performance in the charts.

In Russia only one remix version ( Morel's Pink Noise Radio Edit ) was released; this reached number 16 in the charts and stayed in the top 100 for 26 weeks, or 40 weeks in total in the Russian hit parade. In Italy , the single reached number 16 in the charts and lasted seven weeks. In Hungary the song was the most successful and took third place in the charts. Friend or Foe made it onto the charts in countries such as Great Britain , Ireland , the Czech Republic , the Netherlands and Switzerland , but only achieved mediocre placements and was only briefly represented in the national charts. In Poland the song made it to number eight, in the global radio airplay charts it reached number five.

A maxi single called Friend or Foe (Remixes) was also released , which was used to promote the actual song. Friend or Foe (Remixes ) contains 13 different remixes of the song, and has been released in the UK and Russia, among others.

Benjamin Fuchs from laut.de describes the song in his review as a "below average semi-rock song", which is held together by "electronic bells and whistles à la Musikraupe".

Music video

From October 16 to 17, 2005, tATu were in front of the camera in Los Angeles for the music video for the song. James Cox directed; Billy Parks was the producer. The video was shot in Bronson Canyon in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. Jelena Katina and Julija Wolkowa , both dressed in black, drive a Chevrolet Chevelle into a cave in the canyon. There they enter a small stage and sing their song in front of a few people while they dance to it. In the middle part of the video, Volkova leaves the stage and plays a short piano solo, after which the two singers continue with the performance of the song. The video was first published on November 8, 2005.
