Anatomija tATu (Russian "Анатомия" Тату ""; in German anatomy of tATu ) is a Russian documentary about the singing duo tATu from 2003 . The film was first broadcast on December 12, 2003 on the Russian commercial broadcaster CTC . In March 2004, director Witali Manski also presented it at a film festival in Riga, Latvia . In 2004 Anatomija tATu was also released on DVD.

The nearly hour-long film was cut from 120 hours of footage and shows tATu during their promotional tour in the United States and at concerts. Also included are interviews with the two singers Julija Olegowna Wolkowa and Jelena Sergejewna Katina as well as their manager and producer Iwan Nikolajewitsch Schapovalov and their parents.

action

The film begins in spring 2003. At this point in time, tATu are in New York on a promotional tour for the US market . Band manager Ivan Shapovalov developed talking to a promoter the idea, on the occasion of the Iraq war with the anti-war slogan "ХУЙ ВОЙНЕ!" ( CHUJ WOJNE! ; On Russian mutatis mutandis "Fuck the war!") To cause a stir. The two singers later appear with this slogan on their T-shirts in television programs and at autograph sessions.

In the next few shots Wolkowa and Katina are shown in the hotel lobby and in their hotel room. Interview snippets are played between recordings of their everyday lives such as moving into their rooms, ordering breakfast and watching TV. Volkova, for example, talks about her first pregnancy and why she decided to have an abortion , while Katina talks about her feelings while kissing her bandmate. Both girls describe themselves as religious, and Katina says she goes to church regularly. Shapovalov is also interviewed in detail and provides information about the circumstances of the production of the first tATu single entitled Ja soschla s uma , and that the project was about to be dissolved.

The plot moves to Moscow . In the tATus Management office, Wolkowa and Katina as well as their parents consult with Shapowalow and other managers about Volkova's health. A cyst in the singer's throat makes it impossible for her to sing high pitched heads. An operation is being discussed, but this would mean that the duo would not be able to perform for several weeks and would not be able to hold album recordings. Shapovalov warns that tATu must definitely be present at the height of their popularity. In addition, another band manager estimates that each day of waiting could cost both singers around 200,000 euros in income. Participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2003 in Riga, in which tATu will compete for Russia with the song Ne wer, ne boisja , is also in question. Volkova assures that she feels able to sing this song at the contest despite her illness. Shapovalov points out that it is a national matter: "If my mother country tells us to win, I cannot refuse." The conversation ends without a clear result on how to proceed with the situation. Ultimately, however, there is neither an operation nor a sparing of Wolkowa's voice by reducing the duo's performances.

In the further course of the film, the last hours before the Eurovision Song Contest are treated in the form of a countdown. Eight hours before the show begins, Volkova is sick in bed, having not attended the dress rehearsal the previous day. Nevertheless, she will perform the title together with Katina in the Skonto Arena as part of the singing competition. tATu are disappointed with the narrow third place, while their management discusses reasons for the failure. The film ends with shots of Katina in the Moscow metro and Volkova in a bus.

criticism

Lyudmila Wassiljewna Stebenkowa, a member of the Moscow City Parliament and health officer, called for the film to be examined by the public prosecutor. In one scene, manager Shapovalov and tATus, then PR manager and press spokeswoman Beata Ardeewa, are shown smoking a cigarette that probably contained marijuana . Although no information about the cigarette is given in the film, the smoke development and the state of intoxication shown by the two consumers suggest a herbal drug. In addition, Yulia Volkova speaks in the film about her experience with heroin and says that you do not become addicted after the first time and that one-time intravenous drug use has no negative consequences. Stebenkowa and other MPs saw this as a trivialization of drugs and thus a criminal offense. Stebenkova also said the film is a stark example of vulgarity and has a pernicious effect on Russian youth. Ultimately, however, there was no trial or censorship or a ban on broadcasting the film.

With the entry into force of the new Russian media law, "Anatomija tATu" was marked with the highest of the four newly introduced censorship levels on September 1, 2012 and may therefore no longer be broadcast on Russian television before 23:00.

Publication on DVD

The film was released in 2004 using the proper spelling “Т.А.Т.У. А.Н.А.Т.О.М.И.Я. “in Russia on DVD. The film was also released in the United States under the English title "tATu ANATOMY". Both versions differ, however, only in their Russian-language or English-language menu and the language used on the DVD case, and each is optionally equipped with English subtitles.
