action

Notorious art thief Keith Ripley shoots Victor Korolenko at a bathing establishment in Brighton Beach .

Gabriel Martin follows two men to the New York Metro , where he steals these diamonds, and is watched by Ripley. This follows Gabriel into the subway . Gabriel wants to redeem the stolen diamonds from a fortune teller, but Ripley intervenes and takes them. Ripley makes Gabriel an offer for a joint coup.

Meanwhile, Gabriel gets to know Alex, with whom he gradually develops a relationship. The lawyer Alex is Ripley's goddaughter and, as Gabriel will only later find out, the daughter of the allegedly murdered Victor Korolenko, who was Ripley's former partner.

Ripley leads Gabriel to a museum, where he shows him the art treasures of the Romanovs . He lets Gabriel know about his plans to be his partner in the robbery of two Fabergé eggs from the vault of "Romanov Jewelers, Ltd.". Hardly anyone knows of the existence of the two eggs. Client Nicky Petrovich would pay them more than $ 20 million for each egg.

The "Romanov Jewelers Ltd." organized an event in honor of the NYPD , at which Ripley and Gabriel, disguised as police officers, were present to get an impression of the security system there. An authorized smart card is required to have access to the doors and elevator . The room in which the safe is located is equipped with sensitive motion detectors. The vault is also equipped with a biometric handprint scanner, a voice recognition sensor, an ultrasonic sensor inside the vault and an additional reinforced reinforced door.

Gabriel initially sees the theft of the Fabergé eggs from the inside of the two safes as an impossibility, but in the end he lets himself be persuaded to carry out the coup, especially after Alex is taken hostage by Nicky Petrovich and her life is threatened.

The next day, Ripley and Gabriel gain access to the Romanov building through a subway shaft. In the building they trigger an alarm to attach an iPod to the electronics of the surveillance camera so that the security guards' monitors do not show the live recordings, but video stills from the vaults. An overwhelmed security guard gives them the smart card they need to access the building's doors and elevator. They also outsmart the other security systems without any problems and finally crack the combination of numbers on the lock on the reinforced door. When Ripley holds the Fabergé eggs in his hands, Gabriel points his gun at Ripley, forces him to hand over the loot and explains to him that he is a Miami cop who is undercover. Gabriel escapes the building with the eggs, while Ripley remains trapped in the vault.

Gabriel then hands the Fabergé eggs over to Nicky Petrovich, who in return releases Alex. At police headquarters, the head of the investigation, Lieutenant Weber, Gabriel brings prisoner Nicky Petrovich in front of him, who, it turns out, is not the one to whom Gabriel handed the two Fabergé eggs. The "wrong" Nicky Petrovich is really Victor Korolenko. This was not actually murdered by Ripley, but merely shot to give the appearance of a fatal assassination attempt.

Keith Ripley is acquitted with the help of his attorney Alex for lack of evidence because Ripley had made a deal with security guard Zykov. Zykov cleared the entire vault, so that there is no evidence against Ripley that he stole anything, as nothing is officially known of the existence of the art treasures in the vault.

Ripley calls Gabriel briefly before his departure and explains to him that he knew about the transfer from Miami before he arrived in New York. Furthermore, Ripley knew that Gabriel is a police officer and could therefore use him for the theft. Finally he says that the real Nicky Petrovich and Zykov, who are both art smugglers, have since gone underground and that he and Victor Korolenko will leave the country. What remains is the lawyer Alex, who, despite all the lies before, confesses her love to Gabriel.
