Sergio Rossi (designer)
Sergio Rossi (born July 31, 1935 in San Mauro Pascoli , † April 3, 2020 in Cesena ) was an Italian designer of women's shoes.
Life
Rossi learned the shoemaking trade in his father's shop. From 1966 he sold shoes in shoe shops in Bologna . In 1969 he founded the Sergio Rossi brand . His most famous designs are the Opanca sandals and the Godiva pumps . His shoes have been included in their collections by companies such as Azzedine Alaïa , Versace and Dolce & Gabbana . In 1999 he sold his brand to Gucci , but managed the company until 2004.
He died in April 2020 at the age of 84 as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection. A week earlier, Rossi had donated 100,000 euros to fight the COVID-19 pandemic .
