Sergio Verdú (born August 15, 1958 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish - American information theorist .

Verdú received a degree in telecommunications engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona in 1980 and received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1984 with H. Vincent Poor ( optimal multiuser signal detection ). He has been Assistant Professor since 1984 and Professor at Princeton University since 1993 .

It is particularly important for contributions to the multi-user detection ( Multi User Detection known), to distinguish the signals of several users (u mobile, digital TV, satellite communications, data transmission. A.) In communication channels.

In 1989 he was visiting professor at the Australian National University and from 2002 at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI). He has been co-editor of the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory since 1990 . In 1997 he was President of the IEEE Information Theory Society , whose Golden Jubilee Award he received in 1998. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering (2007).

Sergio Verdú is a Fellow of the IEEE (1993), in 1997 he received the Presidential Young Investigator Award . In 2000 he received the Frederick Emmons Terman Award , in 2007 the Claude E.
