Sergio Verdú

Sergio Verdú (born August 15, 1958 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish - American information theorist .

Verdú received a degree in telecommunications engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona in 1980 and received his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1984 with H. Vincent Poor ( optimal multiuser signal detection ). He has been Assistant Professor since 1984 and Professor at Princeton University since 1993 .

Shannon Award and in 2008 the Richard W. Hamming Medal . In 2005 he received an honorary doctorate from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. In 2014 he was elected to the National Academy of Sciences . For 2016 he was awarded the NAS Award for Scientific Reviewing .
