The Servona GmbH is a manufacturer of medical devices and medical-technical devices and a home care company based in Troisdorf . In Germany the company operates 14 medical supply stores . The majority shareholder has been the Droege Group since 1999  .

This became known in 1949 as Dr. Kuhn & Co. founded the company primarily for its speech aids developed under the brand name “Servox”. These are devices that enable patients to speak again with electrical assistance after they have lost their natural voice due to an operation on the larynx or trachea .

history

Dr. Kuhn & Co GmbH (1949 to 1990)

The company was founded by the chemist Alfred Kuhn in 1949 with the company name Dr. Kuhn & Co. GmbH was founded as a manufacturer of both chemical-pharmaceutical and medical-technical products. By 1958 the company developed its first electronic speaking aid. From 1961 the company was part of Madaus , which was newly founded in Radebeul in 1951 .

In 1962, the “SERVOX speaking aid” was launched on the market. The medical progress towards the artificial larynx up to 1982 opened the way to the improvement of speech aids in the 1980s. With the technical development at Dr. Kuhn & Co. under developer Peter Griebel, the company was able to add another important element to its long-held patents .

In 1988 Hassheider Medizintechnik from Cologne was taken over. Klaus Hassheider also held a patent in the speech aid sector since the mid-1970s. After its founding in 1974, his company had developed into a provider of voice amplifiers, but also of technology for the medical care of patients undergoing a tracheotomy or laryngectomy , which subsequently expanded the product range of Dr. Kuhn & Co. expanded.

Change of company and owner (1990 to 2008)

In 1990 the two companies merged to form SMT Servox Medizintechnik GmbH . The seat of the company was Cologne . In 2000, the company was converted to the stock corporation SERVOX AG . The management consultant Walter Droege had gradually acquired the majority in its parent company Madaus . In 2007 he decided to sell his shares to the Italian Rottapharm . However , he had previously separated SERVOX AG from Madaus . She remained part of his own group of companies. At the end of 2007, the legal form of SERVOX changed from a stock corporation back to a GmbH.

Servona GmbH (from 2008)

In September 2008 the company was given its current name Servona GmbH . To complement this, Droege acquired the medical supply store group Zieger from Dortmund in 2012, which specializes in orthopedic care.

Hoffrichter GmbH was taken over in 2014 . The agreement provided for the retention of the company founded by Helmut Hoffrichter in 1992 and a managerial role for Jens Hoffrichter, the former co-owner and son of the founder. The manufacturer of ventilation technology based at the Schwerin location of the technology and commercial center Schwerin / Wismar had been in economic difficulties since 2011. After the founder was named Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 and the company grew to 130 employees, sales fell in 2011. The 2012 financial year ended with a turnover of 5.3 million euros and a loss of 642,000 euros. Even within the Droege Group , Hoffrichter did not succeed in sustainably improving capacity utilization in production, which is why further staff reductions had to be announced at the end of January 2017.

In June 2014 the takeover of Nicolai-Vital-Resort GmbH , which specializes in the supply areas of orthopedic and rehabilitation technology as well as home care in the healthcare sector, took place. In 2016 the Servona sp. z oo in Poland and Servona BV in the Netherlands . The company maintains two further locations in China through Servona Medtech Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. and Suzhou Atmotech Co., Ltd.
