The Sesiinae are a subfamily of butterflies within the glass winged family (Sesiidae). They are known worldwide, with the exception of Antarctica with 1040 species so far.
features
The representatives of the Sesiinae are characterized by their different club-shaped feelers , which are equipped with an independent, always identical hair brush at the tip and curved eyelashes on the ventral side . The CuP vein of the hind wings has receded or is absent, but its position is recognizable by a scale line. The male vinculum has processes behind and a distinct saccus. The blades are provided with double or multiple forked, chitinized sensory hairs. The chaetos schemes on the sides of the head are straight and confined to the back edge of the head. The towards the back, located on the front part of the Epimerons the pleura on Mesothorax formed a characteristic, the seam between the pleura occluding protuberance.
Systematics
The Sesiinae are divided into six tribes . The following list of species is limited to the 109 species occurring in Europe in four tribes, the 48 species represented in Central Europe are marked accordingly (A, CH, D).
