Seth Rothstein

Seth Rothstein († May 1, 2013 in New York City ) was an American music producer and product manager who made a name for himself with award-winning re-releases of jazz recordings, especially from the 1990s.

Live and act

Seth Rothstein worked at Universal in the 1980s, where he made Emarcy, Polydor and Verve re-releases by Count Basie , Jackie Cain / Roy Kral , Chick Corea , Gil Evans ( The Individualism of Gil Evans ), Dizzy Gillespie , Lee Konitz and James Blood Ulmer ( Odyssey ). From the 1990s he worked as product director at Sony , where he edited the jazz reissue series Legacy , and later he also worked with ECM. He was responsible for a number of re-releases of Columbia recordings at Sony by Dave Brubeck ( Time Out 1997), Bill Evans , Dexter Gordon , Herbie Hancock , Charles Mingus ( The Complete Columbia & RCA Albums Collection 2012), Sarah Vaughan , Woody Shaw , Dinah Washington , Weather Report or Ben Webster ( Soulville ). In the 2000s he was responsible for the Miles Davis boxes The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions (1998), The Complete In A Silent Way Sessions (2001), The Complete Jack Johnson Sessions (2005) and the 6-CD box The Cellar Door Sessions 1970 (2005), which was nominated for the 2007 Grammy Awards . The editions he produced The Complete Hot Five and Hot Seven Recordings and The Complete Billie Holiday on Columbia by Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday received Grammy Awards in 2001 and 2002 .
