Jackie Cain (born May 22, 1928 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin as Jacqueline Ruth Cain , † September 15, 2014 in Montclair , New Jersey ) was an American jazz singer .

Live and act

Jackie Cain came to Chicago in 1946 and met the pianist Roy Kral there , with whom she worked since then and whom she married in 1949. In 1948/49 and again in 1953 they played in the orchestra of Charlie Ventura , with whom they recorded for GNP . In his attempt to popularize bebop ( "bop for the people" ), he used her and Roy Krals' voices as bop singing (in unison form) in conjunction with the instrumental parts. Then they appeared as "Jackie & Roy" in a duo (as well as in an extended line-up as a quartet). In the 1960s they processed pop material from Paul Simon and Donovan . In the 1970s and 1980s, a number of albums were made on the Concord label. In 2002, Roy Kral died of a heart attack at the age of 80. The following year she performed again in public to celebrate Marian McPartland's 85th birthday . Cain died on September 15, 2014 at the age of 86 from complications from a stroke he had suffered four years earlier .
