The Settmecke is a 9.9 km long orographic left tributary of the Röhr in the North Rhine-Westphalian Sauerland ( Germany ).

geography

The Settmecke rises as Stockumer Bach , on the south of Dörnholthausen , a district of Sundern , at an altitude of 508  m above sea level. NN at the Blackshahnkopf. From here it flows primarily in a north-easterly direction. On its way it flows through the aforementioned Dörnholthausen, Stockum , Seidfeld and flows into Sundern at 245  m above sea level. NN on the left side in the tube.

There is a difference in altitude of 263 m on the 9.9 km long Settmecke path. It drains an area of 18.994 km².

To the north of Seidfeld, water from the Settmecke can be channeled at a distributor structure into a canal, which leads the water into the Sorpe dam via the Settmecke tunnel .

nature and environment

In the localities of Dörnholthausen, Stockum, Seidfeld and Sundern, the Settmecke has been greatly changed by humans. The river flows here partly like a channel, with the banks for the most part being strongly fortified. The Settmecke does not produce drinking water.

For the management plan for the Water Framework Directive of the EU and the Settmecke commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia (MUNLV) was investigated. The Settmecke in its entirety was classified as natural despite building structures in the location. The general degradation was classified as moderate and the saprobia as good. In animals and plants, these classifications were made, in macrozoobenthos (small organisms living on the bottom of the water) as moderate, in macrophytes (aquatic plants visible to the naked eye that live under and on the surface of the water, including chandelier algae , mosses and ferns and seed plants such as spawning herbs) as very good , and in the case of phytobenthos (plants living on the seabed , mainly algae) as moderate. The fish fauna was not examined. With regard to the pollution of the Settmecke with nitrate , metals and other substances that may pollute the water, it was classified as good to very good. The chemical condition was rated as good. Because of the construction in the local areas, the ecological condition and the potential for improvement were only classified as moderate.

So far, dipper , gray wagtail and mallard have been identified as breeding birds on the set mecke . The tufted duck became extinct as a breeding bird. The gray heron and black stork feed on. The muskrat and, in the local area of Sundern, the brown rat occur.
