Settrup is a village in the city of Fürstenau .

The first documentary mention is from the year 890 under the name Setdorphe in the register of the monastery Werden near Essen / Ruhr.

geography

Settrup is located south of Fürstenau and borders the Emsland to the west and North Rhine-Westphalia to the south . There it forms a triangle with the districts of Osnabrück , Emsland ( Freren ) and Steinfurt ( Shell ) . Settrup is on the former Duisburg – Quakenbrück railway line .

history

The castle at the Segelfort (also Segelforth , Segelfahrt ) had Prince-Bishop Ludwig von Ravensberg built around 1300 as a base for the north of his territory. This led to a dispute with Count Otto IV of Tecklenburg-Ibbenbüren , which ended in 1308 with the battle on the Haler field (near Halen ). As a result of the peace negotiations, the castle was razed , leaving Fürstenau Castle in the immediate vicinity as the only complex of its kind.

On July 1, 1972, Settrup was incorporated into the city of Fürstenau.

Until the end of the 1980s, schnapps was distilled in the Tebbenhoff grain distillery and after the abandonment, the farm was redesigned for various commercial purposes.

Culture and sights

In September, the farmers' market is held in and around the Heimathaus. The Heimatverein Settrup eV is the sponsor of the Heimathaus, in which the shooting club and the youth team are also located. In the former village school, there is now a leisure home that can be used by school classes and leisure groups.
