Shō Kawamoto (born March 1, 1993 ) is a Japanese middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800-meter run .
Athletic career
Shō Kawamoto gained his first international experience at the Junior Asian Championships 2010 in Hanoi , where he reached fifth place in the final. Two years later he took part in the Junior World Championships in Barcelona and reached the semi-finals there, where he was eliminated with 1: 50.17 minutes. In the following year, he took part in the Summer Universiade in Kazan , where he also reached the semifinals and took fourth place with the Japanese 4 x 400 meter relay. He then won the East Asian Games in Tianjin over 800 meters and won silver with the relay. In 2014 he took part in the Asian Games in Incheon for the first time, but was eliminated there with 1: 53.24 minutes in the first round. At the Asian Championships in Wuhan 2015, he won the bronze medal in 1: 50.50 minutes behind the Katari Musaeb Abdulrahman Balla and Jinson Johnson from India. The following year he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated in the first round with 1: 49.41 min .
In 2017 he again took part in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar and this time finished ninth. At the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , he finished seventh in 1: 50.87 minutes and won the bronze medal with the Japanese relay.
In 2013 and from 2015 to 2018, Kawamoto became the Japanese 800-meter champion. He graduated from Nihon University in Tokyo with a degree in human and sports science .
