Shakir Stewart

Shakir Stewart (born April 12, 1974 in Oakland , California , † November 1, 2008 in Marietta , Atlanta , Georgia ) was an American music entrepreneur who succeeded Jay-Z in the Island Def Jam Music Group in 2008.

biography

Stewart grew up in Oakland and then attended Morehouse College in Atlanta. There he became known for organizing some parties and concerts. With some school friends he founded a production company called Noontime , which among others spanned the careers of Jazze Pha , Johnta Austin and Bryan-Michael Cox .

His career began with Hitco Music Publishing, for which he signed Beyoncé Knowles . In 2000, he became A&R at LaFace Records . One of his discoveries there was contemporary R&B singer Ciara . In 2004 he left this record company and worked as the A&R officer for Def Jam. There he discovered the rappers Young Jeezy and Rick Ross . In June 2008, he assumed the position of Executive Vice President, which has been vacant since Jay-Z's resignation in December 2007.

On November 1, 2008, Stewart was found dead at home. He had a head shot killed himself .
