Shanti Grau Roney (born November 24, 1970 in Spånga-Tensta , Stockholm , Sweden ) is a Swedish actor .

Life

Shanti Grau Roney was born in Stockholm as the son of the English musician Steve Roney, who settled in Sweden after many years of traveling in India, and Anita, who was involved in several art projects. After a few years, the family moved from Stockholm to a farm in Farstorp, not far from the small Swedish town of Hässleholm , in an artists' commune, where they lived with like-minded people, including Don Cherry and his children Neneh Cherry and Eagle-Eye Cherry . The community itself is not far from the location of Roney's film Together! .

Already during his childhood he played with Neneh and Eagle Eye in a kind of amateur theater group and after he moved to Stockholm to attend high school he also looked for other amateur theaters. After school he lived with a good friend in Brooklyn , New York City for a year and also acted there in smaller theaters, so that he decided to visit the Teaterhögskolan in Stockholm on his return to Sweden . However, he broke his acting studies in favor of a commitment on Stadsteatern again. Through his long-standing theater engagement, he was also booked for smaller supporting roles in film and television productions.

However, his film career only started after winning the Guldbagge , the most important Swedish film award, as Best Supporting Actor for his role as Glenn in the comedy drama The Way Out . The second nomination in the same category in 2002 for Commissioner Beck - Price of Revenge indicated his potential and determined Roney for certain types of roles. He is often booked for crime series and films to mimic the loser or criminal.
