On October 1st, 1980 she skated for the first time. Ten years later she was able to celebrate her first European Championship title. At their first speed skating world championships in Gujan-Mestras on August 29, 1994 they managed to get two gold medals, over 1,500 m and in the 5,000 m points race. In 2001 she achieved a victory in the largest inline race in the world, the Berlin Marathon .
In total, she won 15 world championships, was 35 times European champion and 88 times national champion. On October 1, 2003, Herrero announced her retirement from competitive sports.
