Shimon Avimor

Shimon Avimor (born August 1, 1913 in Germany; † March 1994 ), Hebrew אבימור, שמעו, born Erich S. Schwarz , was an Israeli diplomat and author .

Erich Schwarz attended the Helmholtz School in Frankfurt am Main . After January 30, 1933 , the day when power was handed over to the National Socialists , he emigrated from Germany at the age of 19 and immigrated to the yishuv of the British mandate of Palestine . Between 1936 and 1939 he witnessed the armed Arab uprising against the British mandate and the Zionist conquest, which was bloodily suppressed.

Fourteen years after the establishment of the State of Israel, he was inducted into the diplomatic service of the Israeli Foreign Ministry on October 1, 1962, at the age of 49. He began his diplomatic career as first secretary and cultural attaché at the embassy in Dakar , Senegal , and also as a non-resident consul for Gambia . He held these positions from 1962 to 1965. He then was Israel's ambassador in Libreville , Gabon, until 1968 . Between 1968 and 1972 he was head of the registry in the remote data processing unit of Israel's foreign ministry. From 1972 to 1975 he was again used in personal union both as ambassador to Phnom Penh , Cambodia , and as non-resident ambassador for Laos .

In December 1972, he and five other people were held hostage by four activists from the Palestinian terrorist organization Black September at the Israeli embassy in Bangkok , Thailand .

From 1975 he worked in the Israeli Foreign Ministry in the Europe 2 department in the Western Europe department. From 1976 to 1979 he was in Marseille , France , Consul General at the Consulate General and again in personal union non-resident Consul General for the Principality of Monaco .

In some of his publications he worked with the diplomat Hanan S. Aynor (1916–1993), who was born Hans Sonneborn in Frankfurt am Main and grew up there like Erich Schwarz (Shimon Avimor).

Avimor died at the age of 80.
