Shin-Heae Kang (* 1987 in Kiel ) is a German pianist of Korean origin.

life and career

She started playing by ear at the age of two. She received her first piano lessons at the age of three. From the age of six she studied at the University of Music in Lübeck and from 2001 at the University of Music, Theater and Media in Hanover with Professor Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, where she graduated with top marks. She graduated from high school at the Max Planck High School in Kiel with a major in physics and French with distinction. She wrote her diploma thesis on the subject of "Scientific knowledge and artistic interpretation - observations on the 3rd piano sonata by Johannes Brahms", which was awarded the top grade and also an award. She speaks four languages.

Shin-Heae Kang gave her first concert at the age of five. At the age of 9 she gave her first piano concerto with orchestra, where she played Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 8 KV 246. This was followed by numerous piano concerts and recitals. At the age of 11 she performed Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Piano Concerto No. 1 for the first time. A year later, at the age of 12, she made her first Philharmonic debut in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic , where she also performed Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Berliner Symphoniker . In the same year she performed the Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor by Frédéric Chopin. At the age of 15, Shin-Heae Kang played the Hungarian Fantasy for piano and orchestra by Franz Liszt and the concert piece in F minor, also for piano and orchestra by Carl Maria von Weber. In 2003 she performed the piano concerto in G major by Maurice Ravel, the piano concerto for three pianos KV 242 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with the Braunschweiger Staatsorchester, and both piano concertos by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy on one evening with great success in the Great Hall of Hamburg's Laeiszhalle . Numerous other piano concerts with various renowned orchestras and conductors followed.

She has made guest appearances in various cities in Europe, Asia and the USA. She kicked u. a. at the World Exhibition (EXPO) in Hanover, in the Great Hall of Elmau Castle, in the Great Hall of Kiel Castle, in Elmau Castle, in the Great Hall of the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, in the German House in Flensburg, in the Great Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic, in the Braunschweiger Stadthalle, in the Vienna Hall in Salzburg, in the Great Hall of the Theater in San Juan in Puerto Rico, in the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, in Munich, Baden-Baden, Düsseldorf, Lugano, Gstaad, Florence, Rome, Mallorca, Barcelona , Incheon etc.

She has also made guest appearances at renowned festivals a. a. at the Kissinger Sommer in Bad Kissingen, the Classix Festival in Braunschweig, the Summer Festival of Alpine Classics in Bad Reichenhall, the Festival in Passau, the Lake Constance Festival and at numerous other festivals. She also made a guest appearance a. at the invitation of the Brahms Society Schleswig-Holstein and the Brahms Research Center at the Kiel Institute for Musicology, received invitations from the Brahms Society in Baden-Baden for chamber music evenings in the Brahms House, and gave piano evenings at the Robert Schumann Societies in Düsseldorf and Zwickau.

In 2008 she made her American debut in the Great Hall of the theater in San Juan , Puerto Rico, and gave a master class or lecture at the university there. She gave further master classes in Germany. Since 2008 she has also been teaching particularly talented young musicians.

She has been a guest on various radio and television stations in Europe, Asia and the USA and has so far recorded five CDs.

In 2000 she recorded her first CD a. a. the Corelli Variations by Rachmaninoff, as well as works by Debussy, Mendelssohn, Liszt, Chopin and Beethoven. In 2005 her second CD was released with works by Schubert, Schumann and Liszt. In 2009 her third and fourth live CD was released from a recital with works by Brahms, Beethoven, Schumann, Ravel and Liszt. In 2013 she made some video recordings at Bechstein in Berlin with works by Scarlatti, Chopin and Schumann-Liszt. In 2014 the concert recording of the recital at the "Progetto Martha Argerich 2012" in Lugano will be released as a fifth live CD. The concert was recorded by the Swiss radio station RSI of the Radio Swiss Classic.

In addition to playing the piano, she also took guitar, violin and flute lessons and was very active in sports. Among other things, she was national champion in rhythmic gymnastics, trained Taekwon-Do and played football passionately. She also plays chamber music with great joy and passion.

Awards

In 2006 she was the youngest ever winner in the history of the German Druid Order to be awarded the honorary award, an award that u. a. Karlheinz Böhm , Justus Frantz and the theologian Hans Küng received.

She has received numerous music prizes, special prizes and grants from various institutions and has won several piano competitions. Among other things , she studied in the summer of 2005 as the youngest scholarship holder ever from the Wilhelm Kempff Foundation at the complete works of Beethoven's piano sonatas and concerts in the special Beethoven course in Positano, was among other things a scholarship holder of the Marie Luise Imbusch Foundation Lübeck and received from various internationals Lions clubs, Rotary clubs, and the Zonta Club. In 2012 and 2015 she received an invitation from the International Brahms Foundation to work at the Brahms House in Baden-Baden.

In 2001, when Shin-Heae Kang was 14 years old, a support group in the form of a circle of friends was founded for Shin-Heae Kang, which supports and promotes her in many ways. She has received excellent reviews from the international press since she was eight.

At Argerich's invitation, Shin-Heae Kang gave a brilliant piano recital at the "Progetto Martha Argerich" festival in Lugano, Switzerland in 2012, and receives important artistic impulses from her and is largely supported by her. In 2015, at the invitation of Valery Gergiev , she made a guest appearance at the Mariinsky International Piano Festival in St. Petersburg's Mariinsky Theater in Russia, also with a piano recital debut, and gave a brilliant recital debut at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival . In 2017 she made her debut in South Korea with a recital that was received with overwhelming reactions from the audience and the media and subsequently received re-invitations for years to come. At the invitation of NDR Kultur "Podium der Jungs" she took pictures in the Rolf Liebermann Studio in Hamburg for a portrait.

In addition to piano, Shin-Heae studied classical guitar as a second instrument at the Lübeck University of Music with Professor Albert Aigner from the age of 10. She has also given numerous concerts on this instrument since she was 7 years old and was awarded first prize at the national youth music competition .

She has been a Young Steinway Artist since 2011 .
