Shinahota is a small town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Shinahota is the most populous city in the province of Tiraque and the central location of the municipality Shinahota, which was newly created in 2009 . The village is located in the far north of the province at an altitude of 267  m on the eastern bank of the Río Vinchuta before it flows into the Río Chapare .

Shinahota is located in the Bolivian lowlands on the northeastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the Bolivian Yungas .

The mean average temperature of the region is 27 ° C (see climate diagram Villa Tunari) and fluctuates only slightly between 23 ° C in June and July and almost 29 ° C from November to February. The climate is humid all year round , the annual precipitation is about 2,300 mm. The maximum precipitation is in the summer months of December and January with over 300 mm, less humid are the winter months from June to September with 60 to 100 mm of precipitation.

Transport network

To the southwest of Shinahota at a distance of 183 kilometers by road is Cochabamba , the capital of the department.

The 1,657 km long highway Ruta 4 leads through Cochabamba, which begins in the far west at the Chilean border at Tambo Quemado and leads across the Altiplano and via Cochabamba to Villa Tunari at the foot of the Cordillera. From Villa Tunari it is 22 kilometers to Shinahota and another ten kilometers to the neighboring town of Chimoré . The Ruta 4 then continues to the lowland metropolis of Santa Cruz and finally ends in the southeastern part of the country on the border with Brazil near the city of Puerto Quijarro .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the province of Tiraque 92.7 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
