from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2002 Short Track World Championships took place in Montreal from April 5th to 7th, 2002 . The host was the International Skating Union (ISU).

A total of twelve competitions were held. There was an all-around event for women and men as well as individual races over 500 m, 1000 m and 1500 m. The eight best placed runners in the all-round competition after these three routes also competed over 3000 m. In addition, there were relay competitions, over 3000 m for women and 5000 m for men. The results achieved over the four individual routes flowed into the all-around competition. The first place in an individual race got 34 points, the second 21, the third 13, the fourth eight, the fifth five, the sixth three, the seventh two and the eighth one. However, points were only awarded if the runner reached the final. No points were awarded in the event of a disqualification. The addition of the points scored by a runner resulted in the final ranking in the all-around event.
