Fu Tianyu (born July 16, 1978 in Heilongjiang Province ; Chinese  付 天 余 , Pinyin Fù Tiānyú ) is a former Chinese short tracker .

Career

Internationally, Fu started for the first time at the Winter Universiade 1999, where she won the bronze medal over 3000 meters. She also reached the final in two other disciplines and was once fifth and once disqualified. After that, she did not take part in any other major competitions for three years, but only again at the team world championship in 2002, where she won two titles with the Chinese team. Half a year later, in October 2002, Fu was nominated for the first time for the World Cup in Korea, in which she reached three finals and achieved a second, a third and a fourth place. She also managed a few podium finishes at the next World Cup and, with the 3000 m relay, won her first victory at the second World Cup in her home country. Four more triumphs, including three in individual races, followed in the 2002/03 season, with which she was able to win the overall World Cup of that season. In addition, she was again multiple team world champion and bronze medalist over 500 meters at the 2003 World Championships . Here she was also able to win the world title with the relay.

In the next season Fu achieved five more World Cup victories, three with the relay, two over 500 meters, with which she was able to win the 500 m World Cup. In addition, she was able to win three medals at the 2004 World Cup, two silver and one bronze, and she also defended the team world championship title. Further World Cup successes came in the 2004/05 season, plus two medals, one silver and one bronze, at the world championships. In the World Cup, the 2005/06 season went without a single success, but Fu was able to finish third in the 500 m World Cup. She also focused on this track, on which she had achieved the best results, at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin , where she competed as one of six Chinese short trackers . After she had won all preliminary heats and the semifinals, she was disqualified in the final and missed an Olympic medal. Also in the season together with Cheng Xiaolei , Wang Meng and Yang Yang , the final ended with the disqualification. However, she won another three medals, including a victory in the relay, at the 2006 World Cup.

Again without individual success in the World Cup, Fu remained in the 2006/07 season, and she also missed a medal in individual races at the World Cup. She won silver with the relay. She also won the silver medal at the 2007 Short Track Team World Championships in Budapest . Also in the Short Track World Cup 2007/08 she was denied a single success, but like in the previous year she took four second places. At the Short Track World Championships in Gangneung in 2008 , she won bronze with the relay. She won the gold medal at the 2008 Short Track Team World Championships in Harbin . In her last season, 2008/09 , she came second and once in third place over 500 m and thus reached fourth place in the overall World Cup over 500 m. As in the previous year, she won the gold medal at the 2009 Short Track Team World Championships in Heerenveen .
