Sibbaldiopsis is the only way the plant genus Sibbaldiopsis within the family of the rose family (Rosaceae).

description

Sibbaldiopsis tridentata is a shrub- like species that forms mats through creeping trunks and reaches heights of 5 to 30 centimeters.

The dark green leaves are pinnate to three , the leaflets 1 to 3 centimeters long, wedge-shaped or inverted-wedge-shaped, with entire margins, but tridentate at their tips.

The flowering period extends from May to June. The inflorescence is an open cyme . The hermaphrodite flower is fivefold. The sepals are triangular-ovate to ovate. The five petals are 5.5 to 7 millimeters long, white and rounded. The stamens are in three rows. The stylus is thread-shaped.

The hairy achenes are around 2 millimeters long.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.

Occurrence

Sibbaldiopsis tridentata is common in North America from Georgia to Manitoba , Newfoundland and Greenland . It thrives in locations exposed to strong winds in bare places and in crevices on rocky, acidic soils.

Systematics

The first publication was made of this kind in 1789 by William Aiton in Hortus Kewensis, ... , 2, p 216, Table 9 under the name ( Basionym ) Potentilla tridentata , so in the genus Potentilla . The specific epithet tridentata refers to the three-toothed leaflets. Per Axel Rydberg placed this species in a genus of its own under the name Sibbaldiopsis tridentata in 1898 in A Monograph of the North American Potentilleae , p. 187 ; the new genus name Sibbaldiopsis refers to the similarity to the genus Sibbaldia .

This species was placed in the genus Potentilla by numerous systematists in the 20th century ; after phylogenetic studies, it is listed as an independent genus in 2007. Sibbaldiopsis belongs to the Subtribus Fragariinae of the Tribe Potentilleae in the subfamily Rosoideae within the family Rosaceae .

According to Juraj Paule and Jiří Soják, it belongs as Sibbaldia tridentata (Aiton) Paule & Soják to the genus Sibbaldia . The systematics of this type will also be discussed controversially after 2007.

use

The extremely hardy plant is used as a ground cover ornamental plant . The particularly low-growing 'Nuuk' variety is popular in cemetery gardening.
