Sidney Gottlieb
Sidney Gottlieb (born August 3, 1918 , † March 7, 1999 ) was an American military psychiatrist and chemist who became known for his involvement in the CIA MKULTRA program .
Life
Sidney was born in the Bronx with the name Joseph Scheider . He received a PhD in chemistry from the California Institute of Technology . In addition, he, who stuttered since childhood , received a master's degree in speech therapy . He also had a club foot , but that didn't stop him from pursuing his lifelong passion for folk dancing .
In 1951 Sidney Gottlieb became a member of the Central Intelligence Agency . As a poison expert, he headed the Technical Services Staff (TSS) department. Sidney became known as the "Black Witcher" and the "Dirty Trickster". He directed the production of lethal weapons and mind control experiments.
MKULTRA
From April 1953 Sidney Gottlieb headed the secret project MKULTRA launched by CIA director Allen Dulles .
Gottlieb was responsible for directing and funding unapproved LSD and psychoactive drug experiments in psychiatric research aimed at destroying the human psyche. In addition to LSD, chlorpromazine and secobarbital were also used.
He sponsored medical professionals such as Ewen Cameron (US $ 60,000) and Harris Isbell for controversial psychiatric research that used people as guinea pigs without their consent and against their will. Many of these people have suffered serious health damage from this research conducted by Gottlieb and the Rockefeller Foundation .
In the planned in March 1960 by the CIA, by President Eisenhower approved and the CIA Directorate for Plans Richard M. Bissell carried out Operation Mongoose (also called Cuba project) Gottlieb came up with the idea of Fidel Castro's television studio with LSD and Castro's shoes with thallium to contaminate so that, among other things, his beard hair should fall out. Gottlieb also hatched schemes to Castro by poisoned cigars , a poisoned wetsuit , exploding conch to murder -Schneckengehäuse and poisoned fountain pen.
He also tried to contaminate the handkerchief of Iraqi general Abd al-Karim Qasim with botulinum toxin .
Less well known is an operation within the CIA was Phoenix program in Vietnam , where a team of CIA psychologists mind control experiments on NLF -Verdächtigen conducted that in Biên Hòa -Gefängnis outside Saigon were held.
Gottlieb is also known for his basic research into paranormal phenomena, including a. in remote viewing and near-death experiences .
