description

Information board

The stratified springs with a small bed rise from a spring horizon in the Brown Jura on the border between the Opalimus Clay and the Doggersandstone above. After about 300 meters, the outflowing stream flows into a brook, at least earlier and on the upper reaches of the Wiedereckgraben , which flows half a kilometer further down into the Rohrach .

Five of the springs are located in the Zeckenholz forest . The flowing stream flows 300 m south into another stream, which in turn flows 600 m further east to the Rohrach . It was called Wiedereckgraben at least earlier and on the upper reaches . The other two springs are located a little further east in the open and drain 300 m to the east directly into the Rohrach.

The area of the springs is a well-developed tourist destination. The geotope is an area of around 100 m². A small pond was dammed up there, which can be circled on a paved path. The facility, consisting of a pool , pavilion and green area, was built around 1891 by the District Court Secretary Wirth and the forestry assistant Kalb. The place was then heavily neglected and was not restored until 1902 by the home decorating association founded by the senior teacher Karl Zapf (today Heimatverein Heidenheim eV). In 1975, 1982 and 1988 the Heimatverein carried out measures to maintain the facility. In 1990 hurricane Wiebke destroyed the pavilion. In 2009 the facility fell victim to an act of vandalism and was completely renovated in 2014. Among other things, the refuge was rebuilt based on the historical model.

The sources are identified by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as geotopes (577Q001) and rated as significant.
