Siegfried Czerny

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Siegfried Czerny (born January 15, 1889 in Heidelberg , † May 28, 1979 in Munich ) was a German painter . He mainly created portraits.

Life

Siegfried Czerny was born as the son of the important Heidelberg surgeon Vincenz Czerny . He attended the Kurfürst-Friedrich-Gymnasium Heidelberg and passed his Abitur as an external student at the Gymnasium Donaueschingen in 1907 . After graduating from high school, he began his training at the Karlsruhe Art Academy in 1907. After his military service, he moved to Munich in 1909, where Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl and Max Doerner deserve special mention among his teachers . From 1933 to 1945 Czerny was a professor at the Karlsruhe Academy.

For many years he took part in the art exhibition in Munich's Glaspalast , where the fire in 1931 also burned his three pictures, including the portrait of the Nobel Prize winner for physics, Prof. Philipp Lenard . The Second World War also inflicted great losses on Siegfried Czerny's work.

Since 1945 Czerny lived and worked in Tübingen, where he painted, among other things, the rectors of the university. Czerny lived in Munich from 1955 until his death.
