Siegfried Donhauser

Siegfried Donhauser (born July 1, 1927 in Amberg ) is a German brewery technologist with a focus on biochemical and technological issues in brewing.

Life

Donhauser grew from 1933 in Weiden , where he after a serious injury in the war in 1948 a high school on Kepler-Gymnasium graduated. He studied brewing at the Technical University of Munich and then worked as master brewer and operations manager at Union-Brauerei Fulda . In addition to this activity, he investigated the salt -soluble proteins of barley that occur during beer production using both microbiological and physicochemical methods. His dissertation, which he submitted in Weihenstephan in 1964, received the title "Award" and the prize of the Technical University of Munich on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the faculty in 1965. After renewed industrial activity, among other things as director of the Innstadt Brewery Passau (1968–1973) , he completed his habilitation in 1978 with immunological investigations for the detection of additives in malting and beer preparation. Based on blood group serology, he developed microbiological methods that initially allowed the structural comparison of the proteins from maize and rice.

In 1980 he was appointed to the chair for technical microbiology and technology at Brewery II at the Technical University of Munich in Weihenstephan . Even after his retirement he remained the owner of the Weihenstephan yeast bank until 2010 .

Donhauser has also been very committed to preserving the old brewery site in Passau in recent years. He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Beer, the Bavarian Order of Merit and the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to enforce the Purity Law and to maintain the Passau brewery grounds .
