Siegfried Philippi

Siegfried Philippi , born in Siegfried Salomon Philipp , (born July 31, 1871 in Lübeck , † February 29, 1936 in Berlin ) was a German theater actor , theater director , film director and screenwriter .

Life

The son of the Jewish merchant Julius Philipp lost his mother to her suicide a year after his birth. He attended a grammar school in Berlin , and after training to be an actor, he received his first engagement at the Wallner Theater there in 1890 .

Other stage stops included Dirschau , Sondershausen , Hanau , Oldenburg , Frankfurt (Oder) and Bayreuth . He worked as a director in Wroclaw , Cologne and Hanover . Philippi has also made a guest appearance at the Royal Opera Comique in London .

He made his debut as a film director in Berlin in 1915. He initially staged dramas and melodramas in which his wife, the actress Lissy Lind , was the focus. He later also directed crime novels and comedies .

Later he worked primarily as a writer and limited himself to writing screenplays from 1930. With the coming to power of the Nazis Philippi disappeared from the public.
