Siegfried Quandt

Siegfried Quandt (born July 11, 1936 in Königsberg) is a German historian and communication scientist . He was a history didactician at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen and was in charge of the history journalism course until his retirement .

Life

Quandt, together with Guido Knopp , dealt early on with the role of history programs on television, which have little effect on younger television viewers. In 1981 he founded the working group “ History and Mass Media ” at the University of Giessen , in which prominent representatives of the media and historians worked together.

Since 1984, the university has had a " major in specialist journalism", a journalism course with a special connection with the subject of history, which Quandt has significantly developed and built up. Since the mid-1980s, he has worked on contemporary television films for ZDF and HR . Since 1988 he has been organizing inter-company trainee training for the Association of Hessian Newspaper Publishers , for which he developed a special teaching concept and which he headed for ten years.

In cooperation with the Hessian Newspaper Publishers Association , he founded the Hessian Young Journalists Prize “For the local press” in the same year and is still heading its jury today . Quandt was also instrumental in setting up photojournalistic prizes (1995 “Mensch und Natur” with the Licher Brewery, the Leica Photo Academy and the Nature Conservation Center Hessen ; 1996 “Wissenschaft visuell ” with the magazine Bild der Wissenschaft ) and was in charge of it in collaboration with prominent media representatives the jury for many years. He is also a member of the jury for the consumer journalist award of the Markenverband .

As part of the TransMIT GmbH network, Quandt has set up the TransMIT center for communication, media and marketing since the mid-1990s, in which media analyzes are carried out, media concepts are created and concepts for corporate communication are developed. In addition to numerous other activities in the field of science and the media, Quandt is a member of the program advisory board of the regional television broadcaster Rhein-Main-TV and the advisory board of the journal Fachjournalist . Since 2006 he has been a member of the executive committee and chairman of the German Association of Specialized Journalists.

He also teaches corporate communication at the Ravensburg University of Cooperative Education . For the German University Association (DHV), of which Quandt was a member of the executive committee and vice-president in the 1990s, he fundamentally redesigned its association publication.

In 2006 Quandt was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class , for his commitment to science, media and business .
