Siegfried von Kardorff
Siegfried Alfred Rudolf Friedrich von Kardorff (born February 4, 1873 in Berlin ; † October 12, 1945 there ) was a German politician (DNVP, DVP).
Life
Siegfried von Kardorff comes from the noble family Kardorff and was the son of the Prussian politician and member of the Reichstag Wilhelm von Kardorff (1828-1907), landlord on Wabnitz ( district of Oels , Lower Silesia ), and Sophie von Borck (1836-1914). On April 9, 1927, Kardorff married the writer Katharina von Oheimb (1879–1962), university professor and member of the Reichstag, who had been married three times before, in Goslar , her second marriage to the industrialist Ernst Albert . She was the daughter of the wholesale merchant Rudolf van Endert and his wife Elisabeth. She was considered an advisor to the Reich Chancellor and Foreign Minister Gustav Stresemann .
After studying law in Heidelberg, where he a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia was passing the legal state examination and subsequent clerkship seemed Kardorff first from 1904 to 1908 as a scientific assistant in the Prussian Ministry of Commerce, then from 1908 to 1920 as a district administrator of the district of Lissa in the Poznan Province .
From 1910 to 1918 he was a member of the free conservative parliamentary group in the Prussian House of Representatives as a member of the constituency of Posen 6 (Fraustadt, Lissa, Rawitsch, Gostyn) . There he led the way for a democratic reform of the electoral law in Prussia and in 1917 was designated as Undersecretary of State in the Prussian State Ministry. The conservative development in the Reich and in Prussia brought these efforts to a quick end.
From 1919 to 1924 von Kardorff was a member of the state parliament in Prussia, initially for the DNVP . After the Kapp Putsch , he broke away from the DNVP and joined the DVP led by Stresemann . From then on, he was viewed as an apostate in right-wing conservative circles. From 1920 to 1932 he held a Reichstag mandate from the DVP and supported the politics of Gustav Stresemann and Heinrich Brüning there for years .
In 1926, after the resignation of Hans Luther, he was temporarily under discussion as a candidate for the Reich Chancellery. His appointment as Reich Minister of Justice , planned by Brüning, failed due to a lack of support from his own party, which he represented from 1928 to 1930 and from 1931 to 1932 as Vice President in the Presidium of the German Reichstag.
At the beginning of the 1930s, before the threat of National Socialism, he campaigned unsuccessfully for a collection of the middle class from the DVP, the Economic Party , the German State Party and the Conservative People's Party .
