Mini Star

The Type 144 is a ConRo ship type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .

history

The series was produced in five units from 1988 to 1990, with three ships of the basic type 144 and two of the sub-type 144a. The five ships are primarily used on services with mixed loads of trailers, containers, paper and palletized loads. The model ship of the series is the Mini Star . It was delivered on December 23, 1988 to the Finnish owner company Oy Minicarriers Ab, which belongs to the shipping company Godby Shipping Ab. The second ship, the Link Star , was acquired by Godby Shipping through its subsidiary Oy Trailer-Link Ab. The German shipping company Ernst Russ also ordered a ship of the basic type 144. All three ships were initially used for Transfennica . The last two newbuildings, belonging to the sub-type 144a, were commissioned by Oy Minicarriers Ab and the Finnish company Rettig Ab to be chartered out to the shipping company Bore Line .

technology

The Midas is one of two Type 144a ships

The ships were built in sectional construction and are classified for an ice thickness of up to 80 centimeters ( ice class E3). They are equipped with a stern ramp leading to the main deck, a starboard side ramp and two 12-tonne cargo lifts for handling rolling cargo. The 5.50 m high main deck has an area of 1,216 m² and has 405  meters of gauge . The lower cargo space is 4.19 m high and has an area of 735 m². Together they have a volume of 9,765 m³. The upper and lower rooms have air drying and ventilation systems and are set up for the subdivision of different loads. Due to the shape of the hold, the ship type can be used in paper, cellulose or wood transport. Hydraulically operated folding hatch covers from the manufacturer MacGregor / Navire, from which the built-in ramps and lifts also come, were used. The tank ceiling is reinforced for stowing heavy goods . Up to 180 20-foot standard containers (TEU) or alternatively 90 40-foot standard containers (FEU) can be stowed on board  . There are connections for 20 refrigerated containers each on the upper deck and on the main deck  .

The ships of the subtype 144a ( Bore Star and Bore Sea ) have higher side walls amidships , no side ramp and a closed upper deck without hatch covers. Its main deck has a clear height of 6.20 m and has 429 meters of gauge. The upper deck with 365 gauge meters and the lower cargo hold with 238 gauge meters can be loaded with vehicles from the main deck using a 60-tonne cargo lift. The maximum container capacity is 120 TEU or alternatively 60 FEU. There are connections for 24 refrigerated containers each on the upper deck and on the main deck.

The ships of the series are driven by a diesel engine of the type Wärtsilä-Vasa 8R32D or 9R32E, which acts on a controllable pitch propeller . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
