Typ ship Edith Sabban

The Type 72 is a multi-purpose coastal ship type from the Sietas shipyard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde .

history

Rear view of the Fairland

The series was ordered by various shipping companies from the early 1970s and built in 17 units until 1977. Depending on the construction variant, the ships were often used in European bulk and timber shipping until the 1990s.

The Süllberg, which was delivered in 1973, was the Kümo with the highest load-bearing capacity when it was commissioned, which was achieved at the time with a measurement of 499 gross register tons. The Jürgen Wehr , also built in 1973, was the first ship with the so-called "optimal bridge" - this form of an ergonomically thought-out wheelhouse with extensive all-round visibility, developed by Sietas in cooperation with the See-Berufsgenossenschaft , was inspired by progressive inland ship wheelhouses and later flowed into it Research program " Ship of the Future ".

Several ships of the type were later extended by various shipyards and the former Jürgen Wehr was even later converted into an asphalt tanker . Several units were lost due to accidents during their service life, some more have since been canceled. The remaining ships can be found today worldwide in coastal travel.

The series was created in different variants - which, however, were not given any separate shipyard designations. The shape of the individual largely box-shaped loading space (box-shaped) with a grain volume of 3619 m³, respectively 3380.6 m³ ball room is well of the boat type for cellulose or package timber drive, due to the low Unterstaudach also for the transport of containers suitable. In addition, the tank roof is reinforced for stowing heavy goods .

Chain-operated McGregor hatch covers reinforced with heavy cargo were used, which are stowed in hatch pockets in front of and behind hatch when opened. The Thies was the construction of three electro-hydraulic six-ton cranes, of which the rear two were jointly mounted on a movable carriage. The Parnass should also be provided with its own loading harness when it was extended, but this failed due to unsolved stability problems .

The ships in the series are powered by four-stroke diesel engines from various manufacturers, which on some ships have a reversing gear on a fixed propeller, but in the majority of ships they act on a variable pitch propeller . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .
