Sigrid (singer)
Sigrid Solbakk Raabe (born September 5, 1996 in Ålesund ) is a Norwegian musician . She became internationally known in 2017 with the songs Don't Kill My Vibe and Strangers .
Life
Sigrid was born in Ålesund in 1996, where she grew up in a musical environment. As a teenager she received piano and singing lessons. She made her debut at a performance by her brother Tellef Raabe. She signed a record deal with Petroleum Records and released a single that garnered her local attention, but couldn't find time for promos and concerts outside of school as she pursued a career as a lawyer. When she was 18 she moved to Bergen .
In 2016 Sigrid signed a contract with Island Records . At the beginning of 2017 she released the single Don't Kill My Vibe , which made it into the charts in Sigrid's homeland as well as in the United Kingdom. Michael Cragg, who introduced the song for the Guardian, referred to Sigrid as the new Lorde . In May an EP of the same name with four songs was released. Also in May 2017, Sigrid was the face of Apple Music's Up-Next campaign , in which new, promising artists are presented. Don't Kill My Vibe was voted BBC Radio 1's “Hottest Record in the World” .
This was followed by appearances on Later ... With Jools Holland , on James Corden's Late Late Show and on the German late night show Inas Nacht . In November 2017 she was recognized as the best newcomer at the award show P3 Gull on the Norwegian radio station NRK P3 . She was also nominated for Best Live Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for Don't Kill My Vibe . In December 2017 Sigrid joined the Nobel Peace Prize Concert , a concert in honor of the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize on, the anti nuclear campaign ican . At the end of 2017 she received the European Border Breakers Award , which honors European newcomers who are also successful outside of their home countries. Earlier the following year, she won the BBC 's Sound of 2018 forecast .
In February 2018 Sigrid received the Spellemannprisen 2017, the most important Norwegian music award, in the category Newcomer of the Year. She was also nominated in the categories of Pop Soloist (male / female) and Song of the Year (for Don't Kill My Vibe ). At the Spellemannprisen 2018 she was nominated in the categories Music Video of the Year (for Sucker Punch) , Pop Soloist (male / female) and Song of the Year (for Strangers ). Their second EP followed in July 2018 with Raw . In March 2019, their debut album Sucker Punch was released.
