Sigsbee Park , also known as Dredgers Key , is an island in the Florida Keys that is administratively part of the City of Key West , Florida and serves as a residential area. As of the 2000 census, a permanent population of 1,479 was recorded. The exact area of the island is 1,194,285 m², of which 8,848 m² are inland water.
History and current buildings
The island was reclaimed in the 1940s following the construction of the seaplane runways at the former seaplane base at nearby Trumbo Point , Key West. It is linked to Key West Island by Sigsbee Road and, along with the dam, is part of the Key West Naval Air Station .
Today there are just over 500 residential units on Sigsbee Park. In addition to residential buildings, there is an Army & Air Force Exchange Service , a primary school , a child development center, a youth center, a recreation center, a motorhome parking space , a veterinary clinic, the Sunset Lounge Bar & Grill and a marina .
Sigsbee Park is part of the Monroe County School District and is supplied by Sigsbee Elementary School and Horace O'Bryant Middle School on Sigsbee Park and Key West High School on Key West.
