Johann Gomez da Sylva (* 1671, † 1738), from the Portuguese branch, envoy of the King of Portugal on k. k. Hof in Vienna , married Johanna von Menezes, Countess of Tarouca , the heir to the house. He inherited the property and there was a name and coat of arms association (Tellez da Sylva-Tarouca) . His son Emanuel Tellez, Menezes and Castro, Duke of Sylva-Tarouca and Turnhout , k. k. Privy councilor and president of the Dutch-Italian supreme council, married to Amalie Duchess von Holstein-Beck , was the progenitor of the family in Austria. He had his assets transferred here and acquired the Czech rule ( Čechy pod Kosířem ) in Moravia . His son Franz Stephan inherited Sanfrè , Strevi and Saccabonello in Piedmont from his mother.

Sylva-Tarouca-Unwerth

Ignaz Freiherr von Unwerth (since 1702, also: Ignaz von Unwürth, Unwürde) , k. k. Chamberlain, Herr auf Mnick in the Berauner district in Bohemia , received the status of count on June 28, 1764. The male line died out with his four sons. His grandson Eugen Graf von Sylva-Tarouca (* September 1, 1813 - May 20, 1877), son of the last daughter of Count Unwerth Maria Christine , took on the nickname Unwerth, and the coats of arms were also linked (Vienna, April 27 1831, diploma of March 1, 1837 ibid). From then on, the family called themselves Count von Sylva-Tarouca-Unwerth .

On July 14, 1907, the noble family received the hereditary seat in the manor house , the upper house of the Austrian Imperial Council .

The family owned lands in Bohemia and Moravia . The Palais Sylva-Tarouca in Vienna was the family city palace in the capital and residence city. Gosau Castle in the Salzkammergut was built from 1909 to 1912 as a hunting lodge for Ernst Emanuel Graf von Silva-Tarouca. He also bought Průhonice Castle in Bohemia, which he in turn sold to the Czechoslovak state in 1927.

Sylva-Tarouca-Unwerth (1837):

Shield divided twice lengthways and once across, 6 fields with a central shield. The middle shield is divided lengthways and squared in the right half. 1 and 4 in silver a right-facing, red lion (Sylva); 2 and 3 without picture (Menezes). The left half is divided transversely by red and silver, and in it lies a black tree trunk that has been sawn off at the top and bottom, twice on each side (Unwerth). Main shield: 1, 3 and 5 in gold, two red wolves (Ossorio) running one above the other to the right; 2, 4 and 6 in gold four red posts (aragon). The count's crown covers the shield, and on the crowned helmet stand three sea or cattails of natural color (Unwerth's helmet). The helmet covers are red and silver, and the shield is held on the right by an inward-looking, golden lion, on the left by an inward-looking, golden griffin. The lion holds in the free front paw a right-waving flag, adorned with two golden ribbons flying to the right, which represents the entire right half of the central shield, but the griffin in the free claw holds a flag waving to the left with two silver ribbons flying to the left, which shows the left side of the center shield.
