The Silvertbach is an orographically right upper reaches of the Sickingmühlenbach in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany, almost eleven kilometers long .

Surname

The name Silvertbach is derived from Hof Silver (also spelled Silvert and Silfort ). This farm, documented around 1420, is located on the Silvertbach between the Marl districts of Hamm and Hüls. The farm name Silvert / Silfort in turn refers to its location: Silfort = ford over the Sil (= small run).

Upper course

The Silvertbachquelle is located south of Alt-Oer , Oer-Erkenschwick , in the nature reserve of the same name, only about 100 meters from the northeastern city limits of Recklinghausen. After about 140 meters, the stream leaves the nature reserve at 14.0 km and flows north towards Alt-Oer. After passing the village, it flows further to the north-north-west, where it flanks the Bosbruchteich to the east , to the north of which the Denningsgraben, which is just under 2 kilometers long, flows 70  m from the right at kilometer 12.0 . This rises on the southwest slope of the Stimberg , on the western edge of the swimming pool, at about 93  m .

Avoiding the Rabbit Mountain ( 93.5  m ) in the north , the Silvertbach adopts the westerly direction of its side creek and gradually swings back to the north-west, through different parts of the farming community of Siepen , this name roughly meaning Bachtal ; At kilometer 11.2, a 2 kilometer long stream from Mother Wehner in the Haard flows towards it from the right. After flanking the General Blumenthal 8 dump to the north ( 81.6  m ), the 1.9-kilometer-long Börster Bach flows from the left at 58.5  m and flow kilometers 9.8 and the south of the Honermann settlement is passed.

Course in Marl

With the right-hand inflow of the 2.3 km long Ludbrocksbaches to 9.4 km is Marler area reached. At kilometer 8.7, a 1.5 kilometer long stream from Speckhorn flows out of the right , at kilometer 8.5 the almost 2.5 kilometer long Gernegraben from Haus Haard finally flows , which with around 11 km² catchment area is a quarter of the total catchment area of the Silvertbach, which only drained 16.2 km² up to its mouth.

Soon after, Halterner Strasse is crossed and the stream enters the nature reserve Die Burg , southwest of the main settlement area of Sinsens . The 3.5-kilometer-long Nieringbach flows from the left at kilometer 8.15 and is fed from east to west by the Mollbecke , the main arm of the Burggraben from Beising and the Grenzgraben . In the south of the nature reserve, this flows around the Carolingian ring wall in a semi-counterclockwise direction. Also in the nature reserve, at kilometer 7.6 from the left, the almost 1.5 kilometer long Korthäuser Graben flows , whose source is near the center of the old Korthausen farmers .

The stream, which is very close to nature in the nature reserve, is straightened and laid out with bottom shells; after crossing under Sinsener Bahnhofstrasse between the Nonnenbusch settlement (on the left) and the Sinsener (or actually Lenkerbecker) Bahnhofsviertel and the A 43 , the almost one kilometer long Lenkerbecker ditch from the old core of Lenkerbeck flows from the left at km 5.9 , which today belongs to the district of Hüls-Süd. The brook now meanders on the site of the Auguste Victoria colliery between the Brinkfortsheide heaps (south-west) and the Brinkfortsheide extension (north-east). Until the renovation of the pit water pipes at the end of 2006, the mine still discharged sewage into both the Silvert and Sickingmühlenbach .

Last but not least, the Silvert flows between the Silvertsiedlung named after it in the southwest and the Neue Waldsiedlung in the northeast, crosses the railway line and the A 52 , to finally merge at 3.0 km with the Loemühlenbach coming from the left and henceforth called Sickingmühlenbach .
