course

The Loemühlenbach rises as Obermühlenbach on Polsumer Straße in the north-west of Herten- Langenbochum and initially flows to the north-east. After just 250 meters he reaches the first of four parts of the 61 hectare nature reserve named after him, Loemühlenbachtal . Here the brook is largely close to nature, but partly heavily shaped. It is home to several Red List plant and animal species. At kilometer 7.1 above the estuary, it flows from the left in the Kleverbecke its a kilometer-long left source brook, the valley of which takes up most of the second section of the nature reserve. From now on as the border river between Herten and Marl, it initially assumes its eastward direction, only to turn north-east again. In the third section of the nature reserve there is a one-kilometer-long right tributary at kilometer 6.7 and the one-kilometer Wiesenthalbach at kilometer 6.4.

From km 6.2 to km 5.6 the brook forms the border between Marl and Recklinghausen (- Bockholt ), where it crosses under the federal highway 225 to enter the fourth and largest section of the nature reserve immediately behind it. In what is now Marl territory, the stream now mainly flows northwards. At the historic Loemühle, now operated as a hotel, it feeds the Loemühlenteich the nature reserve ends, soon afterwards the 3.5-kilometer-long Bockholter Bach flows in from the right at 3.4 kilometers .

At kilometer 2.55, the 820 meter long flood trough Loemühlenbach branches off to the left, which joins the 2 kilometer long Loekampbach after 350 meters and the 3.4 long Freerbruchbach after another 300 meters . At 1.8 km, both arms are reunited.

Before the confluence with or flowing into the Silvertbach in the south of the Alte Waldsiedlung in Marl-Hamm , it is piped in the area of the railway lines and the A 52 , which is crossed under at km 0.4.
