Silvestro Carlone (also Silvester Carlone , Silvester or Silvestro Carloni ; * 1610 in Scaria , † 1671 in Sauwinkel, Vienna ) was an Italian master mason and city ​​architect from the Carlone family of artists .

Life

Silvestro Carlone was the son of Lukas Carlone and had two younger brothers, Domenico and Carlo Martino . He initially worked in Vienna and married Lucia Retacco-Orsi-Allio on November 12, 1645 in Vienna. She was the widow of the builder Andrea Allio the Younger and had previously been married to Giovanni Battista Orsi , who was also known to Carlone . At that time, Carlone was a master bricklayer, with the wedding he took over the company of his predecessors and their unfinished jobs in Vienna and Prague. From 1664 he was a citizen of Vienna, from 1669 he was led by the Viennese guild as a master. In his personal environment there were well-known people such as Andrea Antonini , Giovanni Domenico Rossi from Lugano, Filiberto Lucchese , Carlo Quaglio , the architect Simone Retacco , Domenico Rossi , the master mason Jakob Spazzo and Francesco Piazoll .

Silvestro Carlone's daughter, Francisca Carlonin, married Francesco della Torre, known as the Prague stonemason, around 1653 . Silvestro Carlone was the grandfather of a later builder of the same name.

  • Schottenkirche , Vienna: Silvestro Carlone had already been involved in the renovation of the nave and west facade of the Schottenkirche as a construction manager together with Andrea Allio the Elder († after 1652) and his nephew Andrea Allio the Younger († 1645) since 1643 . The planning was done by the architects Antonio Carlone and Marco Spazio . After the death of Andrea Allio the Younger and the takeover of his company in connection with the marriage of his widow in 1645, Silvestro Carlone carried out the deceased's job as construction manager together with the architect Marco Spazio and the builder Andrea d'Allio the Elder until the church was consecrated continued in 1648. The facade dominated by the twin towers was redesigned in the Baroque style and decorated with pilasters .
  • Together with his foreman Martin, the college building on Kohlmarkt was built from 1662 according to plans by Filiberto Lucchese and Giovanni Pietro Tencalla .
  • Together with this foreman, Silvestro Carlone was involved in the construction of the Barnabite College at the Michaelerkirche in 1662 and 1663 , presumably as site manager. In the documents, a "Mastro Silvestro" is mentioned, which is probably the name of him.
  • From 1666 the Leopoldine wing of the Hofburg was built under the direction of Carlo Martino Carlone . Silvestro was involved in its establishment together with his brother Domenico .
