Simon Chemoiywo
Simon Chemoiywo (born April 20, 1968 ) is a former Kenyan long-distance runner .
At the African Athletics Championships in Durban in 1993 , he won the 5000-meter run , beating the young Haile Gebrselassie . In 1994 he was runner-up at the World Cross Country Championships in Budapest and won the team championship with Kenya. The following year he helped defend the team title at the World Cross Country Championships in Durham as eighth in the individual standings. At the 1996 African Athletics Championships in Yaoundé, he won the silver medal over 5000 m.
Chemoiywo was also successful in road running . He won the Corrida Internacional de São Silvestre in São Paulo (1992, 1993) and the Vancouver Sun Run (1995, 1999) twice . In 1998 he finished seventh in the New York City Marathon , in 2000 he won the Prague Marathon , and in 2001 he finished seventh in the Honolulu Marathon .
