from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon Paul Hilscher (born August 12, 1682 in Altenburg , † December 20, 1748 in Jena ) was a German physician.

Life

Hilscher was born as the son of the Altenburg court surgeon and councilor Johann Hilscher from the Silesian Hirschberg. After initial private lessons , he attended the Altenburg grammar school. On April 21, 1700 matriculated he at the University of Jena , where he first philosophical studies of mathematics and physics at George Albert Hamberger and logic at Johann Philipp Treuner completed (1666-1722). On December 10, 1703 he became a candidate for medicine, where he attended the lectures of Georg Wolfgang Wedel , Johann Adrian Slevogt , Rudolph Wilhelm Krause the Younger and Ernst Heinrich Wedel (1671-1709). He made some practical experience, wrote his inaugural dissertation De Philtris in October 1704 and received his doctorate in medicine on October 15, 1705. He then briefly attended the medical lectures at the University of Leipzig with Johannes Bohn , August Quirinus Rivinus , Johann Wilhelm Pauli (1658–1723) and Polycarp Gottlieb Schacher .

When he returned to Jena, he took part in the Salana reading business, so that he became an associate professor of medicine. In 1723 he became a full professor of medicine and from December 18, 1726 worked for Johann Jakob Fick (1662–1730) as a substitute professor of theoretical medicine. After receiving the third medical professorship in botany in 1727, after Fick's death in 1730 he was fully promoted to the professorship of theoretical medicine. In 1735 he became Hofrat von Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg and took part in the organizational tasks of the Jena University. He was dean of the medical faculty several times and in the winter semesters 1729, 1735, 1741 and 1745 rector of the alma mater .
