Simon Ruge

Simon Ruge , actually Wolfgang Kummert , (born May 21, 1924 in Stralsund ; † November 29, 2013 ) was a German graphic artist and writer . Together with Desi Ruge , he wrote several children's books. The couple's best-known work, Cat with Hat , was translated into several languages ​​and filmed in 1982 by the Augsburger Puppenkiste .

Life

Simon Ruge was 20 years old at the end of World War II . He was badly wounded in a brief war effort and his right arm remained paralyzed for life.

He trained as a graphic artist at the University of Fine and Applied Arts in Berlin . There he met Desi, who was studying at the University of Fine Arts . They married in Amrum in 1953 .

In the 1970s, Simon Ruge wrote radio plays. In 1980 he and Desi Ruge published their first joint children's book, Cat with a Hat . It became an international success. The couple wrote four other children's books, including the sequel News from the Hat with a Cat .

After Desi's death on March 19, 2000, Simon Ruge, who last lived in Hamburg, withdrew from the public. After his death on November 29, 2013, the couple bequeathed the rights to their joint work to the organization SOS Children's Villages .

Adaptations

The television adaptation Cat with a Hat was produced by the Augsburger Puppenkiste under the direction of Sepp Strubel and first broadcast in 1982 by Hessischer Rundfunk in four episodes. The continuation of the cat-with-a-hat stories was also adapted from the Augsburger Puppenkiste as the four-part New from the cat with a hat .

A radio play adaptation of the cat with hat by Charlotte Niemann with Sabine Postel as the cat was produced for Radio Bremen and was first released in 1983 as a record under the title cat with hat. A theater adaptation of the cat with a hat was premiered in 1990 in the theater for children in Hamburg .
