Simone Scuffet (born May 31, 1996 in Udine ) is an Italian football player . The goalkeeper is under contract with Udinese Calcio and works for the Italian U-21 national team.

Career

In the club

As a youth Scuffet played for the biggest club in his hometown, Udinese Calcio . Since 2013 he has been the regular goalkeeper of the youth team, Udines Primavera, and also the third goalkeeper of the professional team behind the Serb Željko Brkić and the Croat Ivan Kelava . When both goalkeepers failed against FC Bologna on February 1, 2014 (22nd matchday) , the only 17-year-old Scuffet had his debut in the goal of Udine. In the 2-0 away win of his team, he remained without conceding a goal in his first appearance. Even after the two competitors recovered, Scuffet stayed in goal. In the meantime, the young keeper has been celebrated as a great goalkeeper talent and compared with Italian goalkeepers like Dino Zoff or Gianluigi Buffon . After a one-year loan to Como Calcio in Serie B , he lost his regular place at Udinese Calcio.

In the national team

For the Italian U-17 selection , Scuffet was the regular goalkeeper both at the 2013 World Cup , which ended for his team in the round of 16, and at the European Championship that took place in the same year , where Italy was runner-up behind Russia.

Scuffet is currently playing for Italy's U-21 team.

In May 2017 Scuffet made his debut under Gian Piero Ventura for the Italian senior team in the friendly against San Marino . He was also in the squad for a qualifier in June 2017, but was not used. It has not been taken into account since then.
