Sint Kwinten ( German : St. Quintin (us) , French Saint-Quentin ) is a church in the Brabant High Gothic style in Leuven , Belgium .

history

Even before the year 1015 there was a small chapel on the Waayberg , the hill on which today's Sint Kwintenskirche is located, which was dedicated to St. Quintin . It is believed to have been built in the time of Count Lambert I of Leuven , who lived in Saint-Quentin , France , in his youth . This chapel was made a parish church in the 13th century, enlarged and given a tower. In the middle of the 15th century the church was torn down and replaced by the current Gothic building. However, the tower was preserved and was not rebuilt until the beginning of the 19th century.

It was probably the architect and city builder Matheus de Layens from Löwen who made the plans for the Gothic Sint Kwintenskirche in the 15th century. The construction dragged on for over 100 years and exceeded the financial means of the St. Quintinus Brotherhood, which is why a travée had to be dispensed with in the end.

From 1967 to 1970 the church underwent a careful renovation.
