The Lillach spring

The Lillach rises east of Weißenohe in the district of Lilling of the municipality of Gräfenberg and south of the Dornberg (503 m) a karst spring that pours at least 24, on average 50 and at most 108 l / s . The water swells at 463  m above sea level. NN from a small rock cave in the Upper Jura of the Franconian Alb . The catchment area is the plateaus to the east. The stratified source is designated as a geotope (474Q004) by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .

The Lillach spring is decorated as an Easter fountain over the Easter holidays .

Sintered terraces

The Lillach flows according to their source through sinter terraces or sintering stages called Kalktuffformationen .

The brook joins after almost three kilometers west on the outskirts of Weißenohe at an altitude of 350  m above sea level. NHN with the slightly longer Kalkach coming from the north to the Aubach flowing to the southwest.

The 2.8 km long course of the Lillach ends about 113 meters below its source, so it has an average bed gradient of 41 ‰.

Protected area

The source course of the Lillach is part of the landscape protection area (LSG) Franconian Switzerland - Veldensteiner Forest in the administrative district of Upper Franconia (LSG No. 00556.01., WDPA No. 396107) and the fauna-flora-habitat area Lillinger Wald (FFH No. 6333 -372, WDPA No. 555521473).

The sintered terraces are designated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as geotope 474R084 and natural monument (ND-03503).

Creature

The Lillachtal is a high quality biotope . Over 120 species of butterflies and many rare beetles make the valley a valuable natural gem. In the area of ​​the limestone springs and tuff cascades, there are many rare and endangered animal and plant species that have adapted to the cold and nutrient-poor environment. So is the Lillachtal u. a. a refuge for the fire salamander , the dipper and the two-striped spring damsel and also rare plant species such as the musk or the milkweed thrive here admirably.
